RTS: WTA RISING STARS CONTINUE TO SHINE BEFORE WIMBLEDON

2015-6-30

WTA Rising Star Belinda Bencic captured her first WTA singles title at the Aegon International Eastbourne, the final event before Wimbledon.

Belinda Bencic became the latest WTA Rising Star to capture a WTA title this season, winning the Aegon International Eastbourne, a Premier-level event. It was the second final in three weeks for the young Swiss, who lost to Camila Giorgi in the 's-hertogenbosch championship match. The result shaved off Bencic's Road to Singapore ranking in half and she currently stands at No.21. Runner-up Agnieszka Radwanska, who made her first final of 2015, left Eastbourne in the No.18 position.

Wimbledon, the season's third Grand Slam, begins today and the RTS Top 8 from last week went unchanged after Eastbourne. Serena Williams leads the pack at No.1, with Simona Halep and Maria Sharapova battling it out for the No.2 spot. Carla Suárez Navarro holds the No.4 position with Lucie Safarova finishing out the Top 5. Rounding out the Top 8 are WTA Rising Star Karolina Pliskova, reigning Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova and Angelique Kerber.

The winner of Wimbledon will claim 2,000 points and earn their way closer to a spot at the BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SG Global.

The updated Road to Singapore Leaderboard for singles and doubles is released on Mondays on wtafinals.com throughout the 2015 season.
