JANKOVIC UNTROUBLED IN NANCHANG

2015-7-31

NANCHANG, China - No.1 seed Jelena Jankovic continued her seamless progress through the draw at the Jiangxi Women's Tennis Open with a brisk straight set win over Liu Chang on Thursday evening.

As in her first match, Jankovic got off to a flying start, breaking in the opening game. She quickly stretched this lead to 5-2 and despite surrendering one of her breaks, the set was soon in the bag. Liu played her part in some entertaining exchanges, but she was unable to match the Serb's metronomic consistency from the baseline.

At 2-1 in the second, Jankovic made her move, drawing an error with a backhand into the corner, before securing the break when Liu hoiked a forehand into the tramlines. Three games later, she arrived at match point, wrapping up a 6-3, 6-1 victory with a well-placed serve out wide.

After the match, Jankovic, who next faces another emerging Chinese talent, No.5 seed Duan Ying-Ying, was singing the praises of the host nation.

"For young Chinese players, it's important to believe in themselves and work extremely hard to make their dreams come true," Jankovic said.

"I think they have a bright future and soon there will be another Li Na. She achieved so much and inspired other Chinese players to be like her. Just work hard, believe in yourself and do your best."

Duan booked her quarterfinal date with the former World No.1 thanks to a hard-fought 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 win over Zhang Ling. Elsewhere, No.7 seed Wang Yafan breezed past Erika Sema, 6-2, 6-2, and Chang Kai-Chen defeated Zhang Kai-Lin, 3-6, 6-1, 6-3.
