Sharapova, Kvitova and Defending Champion Peng Shuai Headline 2017 Tianjin Open

Wednesday, 30th August 2017, Tianjin, China – With less than six weeks remaining until the start of the 2017 Tianjin Open, organisers today confirmed that World No. 14 Petra Kvitova and Defending Champion Peng Shuai will join Maria Sharapova as this year's headline acts as ticket sales commenced for the fourth edition of the Tianjin Open.

The official entry list released by the WTA will see an initial 22 players from 17 different countries participate in this year's event to be held at the Tianjin Tuanbo International Tennis Center between 9-15 October including Caroline Garcia (World No. 19), Lesia Tsurenko (30), inaugural Tianjin Open Champion Alison Riske (49) and 2013 Wimbledon finalist Sabine Lisicki.

Two-time Wimbledon Champion Petra Kvitova has amassed 20 WTA career titles during her stellar career including winning at least one title every year since 2011 and reaching a career high ranking of World No. 2.
The 27-year-old Tianjin Open debutant has also had great success in China winning three titles including the Wuhan Open twice ('14, '16) and the 2016 WTA Elite Trophy Zhuhai as well as finishing Runner Up at the China Open in 2014, and will be looking to add another Chinese title to her trophy shelf.
"I have never been to Tianjin before and I can't wait to visit there and play in front of all my fans and to explore the city as well. I have had great success in Wuhan and Zhuhai so it would be great to also win my first Tianjin Open" said Kvitova.

Defending Singles and Doubles Champion and local superstar Peng Shuai (World No. 24) will be looking to repeat the success of her 2016 effort as she continues to build on her solid 2017 season which has included finishing Runner-Up at the 2017 Taiwan Open in February and her second WTA career title at the Jiangxi Open in July.
Successfully defending her 2016 victory will provide the Chinese superstar with a great chance of qualifying for the WTA Elite Trophy Zhuhai at the end of the season.
"This will be my fourth Tianjin Open and the tournament will always hold a special place in my heart as this is where I won my first WTA title. I have many unforgettable memories and I hope that I can play well again for all the fans from my hometown and try to defend my title," said Peng.

Sharapova, who was awarded a wildcard earlier this year, will also be making her debut appearance in Tianjin and is looking forward to visiting a new city for the first time.
"We travel around the world and we always play the same events, we know our grounds, we know where we are going, we know what we are doing. So the exciting part is getting to a new city, a new place, a new fan base as well, I am excited about the chance to play there," enthused Sharapova.

Tianjin Open Tournament Director Stephen Duckitt added, "This year's player field is yet again a demonstration of the growing success of the Tianjin Open as we continue to attract superstars like Maria, Petra and Peng Shuai to Tianjin. The tournament team is very excited about the quality of tennis that the players will showcase and will be a fantastic opportunity for tennis fans across Tianjin to watch some amazing tennis this October".
Fans will be able to purchase tickets via the tournament's official ticketing partner Wesai online at, wechat wallet or Wesai App, by calling 400-139-0000 or at the venue during the event.
