10th June 2015

Tianjin, China –Organisers of the WTA Tianjin Open announced today that Hawk-Eye, the official line calling technology, will be implemented at this year's event to be held at the Tianjin Tuanbo International Tennis Center between October 12-18.

The addition of Hawk-Eye for the next three years is an impressive commitment from a young tournament that is eager to build on the success of its first edition highlighted by the positive praise received from the WTA and players.

"Earlier in the year we announced that we were doubling our prize money and now we are excited to be adding Hawk-Eye to enhance the match experience for players, fans and people watching at home," said Tianjin Open Tournament Director, Stephen Duckitt.

Under WTA rules, players are permitted three incorrect challenges per set with an additional challenge added during a Tiebreak. The Hawk-Eye system uses 10 high-speed cameras set up around the court to track the trajectory and landing position of the ball, and provides players and fans with the opportunity to see whether a ball was in our out during critical moments of a match.

The addition of Hawk-Eye for the next three years follows the Tianjin Open's decision to double prize money from USD 250,000 to USD 500,000 for this. These significant upgrades will make the tournament an attractive option for players to showcase their talents in Tianjin.

"The Tianjin Open continues to grow and become one of the must-visit destinations on the WTA for the players. We look forward to welcoming them to Tianjin and the Tianjin Open this October," added Mr. Duckitt.
